Stay Warm and Drive Further: How Pre-Conditioning Your EV in Winter Can Help
Want to extend your electric car’s range during the winter and still enjoy stepping into a toasty vehicle? Pre-conditioning your car using your DaheimLader wallbox is the key! Here's why it’s a game-changer and how to get started.
Why Preheat Your Electric Car in Winter?
Winter can be tough on your car’s battery, but pre-conditioning offers a clever solution:
Keep Your Range Intact: Instead of draining your car’s battery for heating, pull energy straight from your wallbox.
Enjoy a Cozy Ride: Step into a pre-warmed car without sacrificing battery life.
Optimize Your Battery: Pre-conditioning warms your battery during charging, improving its performance and reducing energy consumption on the road.
By preheating at the wallbox, your car starts the journey fully charged, and you use less energy to maintain warmth while driving. It's a win-win!
What You Need to Get Started
For DaheimLader Smart Users
Check the firmware version: It should be AC_SCE_3.17DA or later. If yours is outdated, email info@daheimladen.de with your wallbox's serial number to request an upgrade.
Enable the Recharge feature: Find it in the hotspot settings (manual section 5.1f). For most cars, set the timer to 1 minute; for Renault, Peugeot, and Opel, increase it to 3 minutes if needed.
For DaheimLader Touch Users
Ensure the firmware version is AC_DG3_1.19 or later. Update it via the settings menu on the wallbox display.
Activate RSDA: Navigate to the settings, find "RSDA," and switch it to "on."
For DaheimLader Smart PRO & Touch PRO Users
Recharging mode is initially disabled. Contact our support team to enable it remotely if your wallbox is connected online. Offline activation isn't available yet, but we're working on it.
How to Set Up Pre-Conditioning
If Your Wallbox Is in Plug&Charge Mode
This mode makes it simple: no extra steps required! Your wallbox is always ready to charge, so when your car needs power for pre-conditioning, it’s instantly supplied.
If Your Wallbox Uses RFID Mode
Here, charging requires authorization, even for pre-conditioning. Different car brands handle this process in unique ways:
Stop/Start Process:
After a full charge, some cars send a “stop” signal, ending the session. To re-enable charging for pre-conditioning, activate "Recharge" or "RSDA" mode as described earlier.
If you preheat your car on a set schedule, use the DaheimLaden app to sync a wallbox timer with your vehicle's pre-conditioning timer.
For spontaneous pre-conditioning, start charging manually in the DaheimLaden app after initiating preheating in your car’s app.
0A Command Process:
Many modern cars use a 0A command to pause charging without fully stopping the session. This keeps the wallbox ready to supply energy when pre-conditioning starts—no additional steps required.
