In this article, we explain how you can use your DaheimLaden EV charger and your photovoltaic (PV) system to charge your electric vehicle directly with surplus solar energy. The prerequisite is that you have successfully integrated your DaheimLaden EV charger into the Click2Charge app. You can find a guide for this here.
To set up PV surplus charging, you need to use the Click2Charge app on your smartphone. Always ensure you have the latest app version installed. You can easily check this in the App Store or Play Store.

How to Set Up PV Surplus Charging
Once your DaheimLaden EV charger is registered in the app, you can set up PV surplus charging.
To enable your DaheimLaden EV charger to detect when sufficient PV power is available for charging, you have the following options:
Inverter Integration: Connect your inverter to Click2Charge. The inverter measures how much electricity is produced and sends this data to your EV charger. Have your inverter login credentials ready. You can find all compatible inverters here.
Powerfox Integration: If you have a Powerfox device, you can use it in Click2Charge to measure your PV surplus. You’ll need the login credentials for the Powerfox web interface.
Solar Forecast: With Click2Charge, you can also optimize your PV power usage without integrations. Enter your PV system details (power in kWp, orientation, and tilt). The app calculates your PV surplus virtually based on your data and weather information.
Setting Up PV Surplus Charging in the Click2Charge App
Check that you have the latest version of Click2Charge installed. Go to the App Store or Play Store to see if an update is available.
Open the Click2Charge app and navigate to the “Charging Stations” tab in the bottom bar.
Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner.
Select “Home Functions.” Here, you can choose which charging station(s) to enable PV charging for if you have multiple stations.
Tap “Solar Charging” and then the “Set Up Solar Charging” button.
Choose how you want to measure your PV surplus:
Powerfox: If you have a Powerfox device, select it and tap “Next.” Tap “Connect Device,” log in with your Powerfox credentials, and tap the “Connect Device” button.
Solar Inverter: Integrate your inverter directly into Click2Charge. Select “Solar Inverter” and tap “Connect Device.” On the next screen, tap “Continue,” select your inverter brand, and tap “Continue.” Then log in with your inverter credentials.
Solar Forecast: Select “Solar Forecast,” scroll down, and click “Enter Solar System Details.” Enter the peak power of your PV system in kW, then input the tilt angle and orientation. You can then choose whether to combine solar power with grid power or charge exclusively with solar power.
Done! You have successfully configured PV surplus charging.
Starting a Charging Session with PV Surplus Charging
To start a charging session with solar energy, go to “Charging Stations” in the app, select your EV charger, and scroll down. You’ll find a new “SolarCharge” button. Activate it and start the charging process using the slider.
If there isn’t enough energy available to charge your vehicle, this will be displayed. You can still start SolarCharge, and the charging process will begin when sufficient solar energy is available. If the sun sets, the charging process pauses and resumes when there’s enough sunlight again.
Note: To use PV power for charging your vehicle, you must manually start the charging process in the app as described above. Charging rules and RFID cards cannot be combined with PV charging.
